Progressive Luxury meets Creative Excellence is the title of the latest exhibition space for BMW’s luxury models at BMW Welt in Munich – in collaboration with BMW Group’s Design Director Adrian van Hooydonk and Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola.

We live in a mobile world. It is part of human life. The BMW Group is continuously searching for new forms of mobility and new concepts. Crossing boundaries and forming interdisciplinary cooperations whilst developing innovative technologies and future car designs is a matter of course for BMW. Especially top-of-the-range cars are meant to become a new kind of living space in the future with the luxury of spending private moments inside.

Adrian van Hooydonk was able to engage the internationally renowned and multiple awarded designer Patricia Urquiola for the development of the exhibition area of the BMW luxury class. Patricia Urquiola is known for integrating innovative technologies into the design of furniture and cozy living spaces. “I liked the idea of applying a fresh technique to create what you might call new territory within the space. So, I used these filters in the metal mass to incorporate a kind of movement. It was a totally new and exciting way of thinking about space for me,” Patricia said.

A particular highlight of the project is the design of the flooring, the pattern of the 322-square-meter surface produced with the help of cutting-edge 3D-printing technology and molded with terrazzo into a coherent whole.

The synergy of a vehicle and exhibition design which characterizes this new exhibition area creates an atmosphere that makes it possible to experience a dialogue of shapes and the uniqueness of the BMW luxury prototypes. That is how Adrian van Hooydonk and Patricia Urquiola demonstrate their personal interpretation of modern luxury.

The exhibition features the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe, the M850i xDrive Coupé M Carbon Exterior, the M850i xDrive Convertible, and the X7 xDrive40i. The exhibition space will also showcase the new BMW 7 series starting from January, 16.
